        noun: last minute panic; [literally] closing-gate panic

This colloquialism is used to refer to the fear of leaving an important matter unattended or handling it too late. 

  • Oh mein Gott, Lili, gestern habe ich Torschlusspanik bekommen, als ich bemerkte, dass ich nur noch eine Stunde Zeit meinen Aufsatz abzugeben hatte! = Oh my God, Lili, yesterday I panicked at the last minute when I realised that I only had one hour left to hand in my essay!

  • Sie war immer noch nicht fertig und geriet in Torschlusspanik. = She still hadn’t finished, and she panicked at the last minute.

  • Bei ihr brach heute eine Torschlusspanik aus. = She panicked at the last minute today.
